TG to unveil Life Sciences policy soon
A Life Sciences University is set to be established in collaboration with the industry to provide advance courses in the subject

Hyderabad: To create the largest Life Sciences cluster in the State, the government is taking up several initiatives such as forming a new Life Sciences policy, Life Sciences University and DeepTech sandbox for the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. The draft of the Life Sciences policy is out for discussion and is likely to be rolled out within the next two months.
Addressing the 22nd edition of BioAsia 2025 on Tuesday, D Sridhar Babu, Industries and Commerce Minister, Government of Telangana, said that the government wants to build Telangana as an important node in the global life sciences value chain and create the largest life sciences cluster by rolling out various initiatives, which includes the launch of the new Life Sciences policy.
“The draft of the Life Sciences policy is out for discussion and the guideline for the formation of the Life Sciences University is included in the policy. We are on a mission to make Telangana as the global hub for talent.
We are collaborating with GCCs in Hyderabad for designing a special curriculum in science and technology, which will make the talent globally competent and future ready,” the minister said.
Elaborating on the announcement made by the Minister, Director of Telangana Life Sciences, M Shakthi Nagappan, told Bizz Buzz that the new Life Sciences policy, which will be launched within two months, has set down framework for setting up of the Life Sciences University. It will complement the existing Young India Skills University by offering post graduate and advance-level courses.
Speaking about the sectors growth in the State, Sridhar Babu said, “In the last 12 months, Life Sciences companies present here have generated 51,000 direct and 1.50 lakh indirect jobs. Currently, Telangana accounts for 20 per cent of the world’s generic medicine and 40 per cent of the global vaccine production and exports $5million worth medicine to about 200 countries.”
US-based Amgen, a biotechnology company launched its largest innovation centre, and Germany-based Miltenyi Biotec, has unveiled its cell and gene therapy centre, in the city on Monday.
About the other initiatives lined-up by the government to make Telangana a leader in the Life Sciences space include, Sridhar Babu said, “We will be soon launching DeepTech sandbox for pharma and life sciences sector. We are determined to make Telangana a key player in the global pharma supply chain for bulk drug and generic pharma. We will also play key role in drug discovery, APIs, biosimilars, and high-end research.”
